Fairgrounds Community Survey

Emily Brock, the Missoula County Fairgrounds Director, presented findings from public surveys regarding the Fairgrounds redevelopment plan to the Missoula County Board of County Commissioners on March 2. The surveys indicate likely voters are supportive of a potential general obligation bond that would fund the Fairgrounds’ Phase 2 development, including rodeo grandstands, green space, a livestock and equestrian center, and new ice rink. The scientifically valid surveys also showed that voters would be more likely to support a bond measure when supported with private fundraising.

The meeting was informational only and there are currently no plans to ask the commissioners to place a bond before voters. The Missoula Area Youth Hockey Association (MAYHA) board of directors will continue to partner with the County, 4H/FFA and all ice users to evaluate and pursue next steps in the journey toward continued Fairgrounds development and more ice. The Fairgrounds redevelopment prioritizes education and learning for our kids, supports families and community, and makes the Fairgrounds cleaner and safer, all of which provide more opportunities and safety for youth in the Missoula community.
The presentation is available here. We would appreciate messages of support to be emailed to the Commissioners at bcc@missoulacounty.us. If you have questions about the development as it relates to Glacier Ice Rink, you may email the MAYHA board at board@glaciericerink.com.
