October 29 Update
We are waiting for approval from the Missoula City-County Health Department to operate our winter youth hockey program. Because of this, the new target start date for the season is November 9.
Please contact Grace Hoene with any questions.
The Missoula Area Youth Hockey Association offers two avenues for youth to participate in winter hockey programs:
The In-House program provides all skaters with an equal opportunity to enjoy the game of hockey and develop personal and team cooperation skills.
The Travel program allows players to compete at an advanced level and to enhance team play by integrating each player’s skills. Equal ice time for all players is not a requirement in the Travel Program. Tryouts are required for all travel programs, which begin in October.
In-House Programs
In-House program fees include two ice sessions time each week for Termite, Mite, Squirt and PeeWee players.
Bantam/High School players are placed on teams within the first two weeks of the season and play weekly games, that end in a best-of-three series championship. The program provides jerseys for these players that must be returned at the end of the season.
Schedule
Second half schedule begins 1-4-2021: PDF
The in-house season runs 16-weeks – October 26, 2020 through February 24, 2021 – with a two-week break over the holidays between December 21 and January 3. Termites, Mites and Squirts can choose either a full season or half season: October 26–December 16, 2020 or January 4-February 25, 2021.
Mandatory Parent Meetings
Mandatory parent meetings will be held over Zoom. Zoom links will be sent out about one week prior to the start date of the season.

Travel Programs
Travel fees include two to three on-ice practices each week (see table below), entry fee into the MAHA state tournament and additional home ice slots. Due to COVID-19, no dryland sessions will take place at the rink this season. Tryouts will be held during the month of October, and A and B teams will be formed where numbers allow. Each age group will participate in a week-long tryout. Tryout dates will be posted after registration has ended. All players must provide a $125 deposit check for their jerseys, which will be returned at the end of the season upon receipt of the jersey.
There are additional costs that will be expected to be paid by each family if your player chooses to participate in travel hockey. Additional costs include tournament fees, travel costs (hotel, gas, meals), coaches expenses, and other miscellaneous fees that each team may choose to incur.
Schedule
The travel season runs 21-weeks – October 5, 2020 through March 11, 2021 – with optional practices over the holidays between December 21 and January 3. See below for the tryout schedule or download it as a pdf. The practice schedule is posted above.
As of August 3rd, 2020, the Montana Amateur Hockey Association has discouraged travel out of state as well as hosting out of state teams until at least January 1, 2021. MAHA league games and state tournaments are still being scheduled at this time. MAYHA plans on offering additional clinics throughout the season in place of the tournament weekends, as well as offering some 3v3 tournaments.
Parent Meetings
All age groups will have a mandatory pre-tryout parent meeting prior to the first session. All parent meetings will be held via Zoom. Meeting invites will be sent out after registration ends.

Sponsors
Team sponsors are still needed for the winter season and count toward fundraising! Sponsors help offset the cost of operating our youth hockey programs, which keeps costs down for our families. If you know of a business who might be interested in sponsoring, contact Laura or download a Youth Hockey Team Sponsorships Packet.
Policies
Please see the MAYHA Guidebook for complete information on our program’s policies and procedures. Visit our COVID-19 policies page for complete information on the rink’s operating policies during phase 2.
