GHL Rule Book
GHL RULES 2010/2011 EDITION WILL BE UPDATED BY 11/1/2010
Glacier Hockey League (GHL) is an adult no-check league with players 18 to 80(ish) . This League is comprised of 7 divisions of men and women of all skill levels. The play is fun and competitive no matter what your talent. From beginner to ex-pro, the GHL is for everyone!!
GHL RULES OF PLAY
ANY GHL PLAYER WILL NOT PLAY WITHOUT USA HOCKEY #.
1.Warm ups 5 minutes
2. Periods consist of 3 18 minute run time.
3. Clock stops the last 30 seconds of each period
4. Clock stops the last 5 minutes of game within 2 goals
5. Penalties are 3 minutes in length
6.Penalties are 2 minutes in length the last 5 minutes of 3rd period
Ex: If a penalty occurs at 5:02 it is a 3 minute penalty. If it occurs at 4:59 it’s a 2 minute penalty
7. Overtime=4on4 for 3 minutes. If no goals scored 3on3 for 2 minutes. STOP TIME.
8. Overtime Penalties=Automatic penalty shot. CLOCK STOPS
9. Games end in ties if no one scores.
10. Playoff Overtime=5 on 5 regular period lengths. After 1st overtime 3 man shootout. Best regular season record decides on who will shoot first.
11. Season length of 14 games and 1 guaranteed playoff game per team.
12.Playoff Tie Breakers: a)Wins b)Head to Head c)Head to Head Goal Differential d)Season Goal Differential.
13.Playoff games will be single elimination until league final. Finals consist of a best of 3.
14. Penalty Minute Limits will Include a 40 minute 1 game suspension and 50 minute 2 game suspension. If any of the suspensions happen in game 13 or 14 of the season it will carry over into playoff game/games. Penalty minutes will start over for playoffs.
15. 2 10 minute misconducts will include a 1 game misconduct.
16. If you incur your second 10 minute misconduct that goes over either penalty threshold the suspensions will stack each other.
17. Roster Freeze as of week 10.
18. Novice League Slapshot rule: No slapshots allowed in novice. This is defined by waist down. The stick may not come above the waist in an attempt to make contact with the puck in a shooting manner.
*NO RESURFACING EXCEPT FOR CUP AND ADVANCE EVERY 2 PERIODS*
FALL/SPRING LEAGUE
1. Warm ups 5 minutes
2. Periods consist of 3 18 minute run time.
3. No Overtime. Games end in a tie. If teams/Refs wish to have 3 man shootout with time permitting they may do so but it will not reflect the tie on the record.
4. Slapshots Allowed in Both Leagues
GHL REF RESPONSIBILITIES
1. UPHOLD USA HOCKEY STANDARDS OF PLAY.
2. Record all major and game misconduct penalties. Write up situations and place a copy in GHL ref binder for the commissioner to hand out suspensions.
3. Sign in on USA hockey score sheet.
GHL SCOREKEEPER RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Show up on time. (10 minutes before game time.)
2.Check rosters with #s.
3.Know how to run the clock
4.Open/Close penalty Box
5.Fill out Score Sheet Completely (To John Wahl Standards)
6.Record stats
7.Record shots
8.Record Penalties
9.Place completed scores sheet in GHL box for Stats guy
10. Put pucks out and pick up any out of play. Lock pucks back up as we have a large budget issue every year with lost pucks.
11. Music must be confirmed by both Team Captains before start of play.
GHL TEAMS
NOTE: ALL PLAYERS ARE SUBJECT TO LEVEL OF PLAY AT ANY POINT. MOVEMENT OF SKILLED OR UNSKILLED PLAYERS IN LEAGUES IS AN OPTION. PLAYERS WILL BE SUBJECT TO TEAM PLACEMENT TO FILL ROSTERS.
1.All teams will have a team captain either in place or selected by the commissioner if no captain is available.
2.Captains Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
-Core players
-Be available for league meeting and draft nights
-Inform ALL Players of GHL code of conduct: We all have a job, this league is an adult no check for the purpose of fun competitive hockey.
-Balance playing time amongst all players. Everyone pays the same fee for ice time.
-Report any misconduct of situations amongst players and GHL hired personnel
-Help commissioner collect all team jerseys.
-Wash team jerseys at beginning of each year.
NOTE: DRAFT DAYS WILL BE HELD BETWEEN OCT 25TH AND OCT 30TH . THERE IS A LEAGUE WIDE CAPTAINS MEETING ALSO HELD.
CUP: Captains will select their core team up to 15 players. If teams are not filled by draft day there will be a draft held to fill remaining sign ups and spots. The goalie draft will be done by pick of the hat. Depending on goalie #s and talent there will be a vote amongst captains if goalies are to stay on one team the entire year. The commissioner vote will be the deciding vote in case of deadlock.
If sign ups and talent permit there will be teams added in this league. The League draft night will be held between October 25th and October 30th.

Team(s) with fewest players will draft until team with next fewest is matched. NOVICE: Captains will be able to core entire team. Commissioner will place all sign ups not cored to designated teams that are needing spots filled. Goalies will be placed on teams by commissioner unless specified by subsequent goalie. They will play with their team the entire year.
HANG LOOSE: Captains will be able to core team with the exception of all upper level cup and advance players. Goalies will be placed on a team unless specified by subsequent goalie. There will be a league captains vote on goalies staying with team the entire year at the beginning of the year. No later than November 1st.
ADVANCED WOMENS LEAGUE: Captains will core teams and goalies with #s permitting. Commissioner will place all sign ups not cored to designated teams that are needing spots filled. Goalies will play with their team the entire year. *Sign ups are done on a player basis and not on a team sign up basis from the 2009-2010 season on* Each player pays individual sign up fee for the GHL.
GHL SCHEDULE OF PLAY/PLAYOFFS
1.All league nights will be designated by July 1st of the upcoming year.
2.Sign ups are due by October 15th and all teams will be compiled by October 30th.
3.GHL league schedules will be out by Nov 1st of each year.
4.GHL Playoff Brackets will be posted by Jan 1st of each year.

LEAGUE NIGHTS ARE SUBJECT TO MOVEMENT DUE TO SIGN UP #S.
Awards: CAPTAINS WILL SELECT 1 PLAYER FROM EACH CATAGORY OF THEIR OWN TEAM. ONLINE VOTING WILL BE UPDATED AND USED.
Offensive Player, Defensive Player, Best Goalie, MVP, Play off MVP.
Awards voting will be up and running by February 15th 2011.
