President's Message
President's Message April 13, 2010
On behalf of the MAYHA Board of Directors, I would like to thank those of you who have taken the time to send your well-wishes to Bill Mathews as he moves on to his next job. Again, we are sorry to see Bill go and I hope your encouragement sends him to success in his new position.
The Board is reworking the job description of the Executive Director. We have learned that the Rink has outgrown the old description and a new one is in order. We are excited to get a new person that can continue the Rink's successes. We will have the job posted in a variety of locations, including our website (of course) by the end of this month. We will keep the listing open through the end of May and will interview in June. While we are always evaluating what is best for the Rink, we do not expect any significant changes to any of the programs.
While Bill is leaving, the Rink and all of our programs are in a great position - we are the envy of rinks across the nation. Our Youth Hockey programs are strong. GHL is as good as it has ever been and we continue to be in the Top 20 in number of adult players. Both programs need to be continually evaluated so they improve and serve the needs of the users. Our financial position is good and we expect to exceed our operational budget this year - for only the second time ever. Though fundraising did not meet our goals, we will be making some important improvements to the Rink this summer. They will not be as big as the two new locker rooms from last summer (unless you like heat in the bleachers). We have a master plan for construction and are looking to finalize new locker rooms in the next year or two.
I frequently receive calls and e-mails from other rinks hoping to match our success. Our success is due to our devoted Rink staff and to our dedicated users. Since we do not want to merely rest on our laurels, we are excited at the opportunity to take the Rink to another level with a new Executive Director providing new insight and passion.
Sean Morris, President
